Having bad breath is when a foul odor emanates from the mouth.

How to get rid of Bad Breath
Below are a number of ways to get rid of bad breath.
1. Drink water to moisten your mouth
Dehydration is one of the common causes of bad breath. If your mouth is dry, drink a lot of water during the day. This is to enable your body to generate enough bacteria fighting saliva to reduce the chances of bacteria thriving in a low oxygen environment. The saliva also contains natural enzymes, which assists to stimulate the production of antibodies that neutralize bacteria.
2. Brush your teeth more often
Sometimes a sticky substance which forms on the teeth and encourages the growth of harmful bacteria can build up on your teeth. The substance is known as plaque, and can cause bad breath. Also the tapped food increases the chances of bad bacteria building up.
Brush your teeth at least twice per day, and if you are more concerned about your breath, you can do it more as need be. Do not over do it.
3. Brush your tongue
There is a coating that usually forms on the tongue. This can be a host of smelly bacteria. Brush your teeth using your toothbrush to get rid of the coating. In case the brush is too big to reach the back of your tongue, you can try using a scraper.
You can also scrape your tongue over your teeth. Scraping your tongue can dislodge the bacteria, so that you can easily rinse them away.
4. Rinse your mouth out
A mouth wash can be used to get rid of bacteria and at the same time refresh your breath. Buy a mouthwash that has the capability of killing germs that cause bad breath. Rinse your mouth daily to prevent bad breath.
You can also swish your mouth with plain water after a meal to get rid of food particles that get stuck in your teeth.
5. Avoid foods that sour your breath.
Try avoiding foods that sour your breath such as garlic or onions.
6. Remove Dentures
Remove the dentures at night if you are wearing one, also clean to get rid of bacterial buildup from the foods and drinks you have taken during the day.
7. Brush Replacement
It’s advisable to replace your brush after two to three months.
Cloves are good to refreshing your breath. They have antibacterial properties, which are very useful in getting rid of bad breath. Pop some pieces of cloves into your mouth. Chew them systematically. This will assist in eliminating the bad breath. You can also take clove tea to get rid of the bad breath. Boil a cup of water. Add one teaspoon of ground cloves. Allow it to simmer for five to ten minutes. Finally, drink the tea when ready or use it as a mouthwash twice a day.
9. Crunch It – Eat more of celery, carrots, Berries, apples, Cinnamon sticks
Eating of crunchy fruits and vegetables, which are rich in fiber are helpful in the fight against bad breath. When you eat more of these they assist in scraping out the plaque buildups, which are responsible for causing mild or irregular forms of bad breath. The foods also boost your immune and offer you nutrients. They also help trigger increased production of bacteria-fighting saliva in the mouth.
Apples – have high fiber content and also encourage saliva production which makes them one of the top natural toothbrushes.
Cinnamon sticks – chewing of cinnamon sticks releases essential oils that kills bacteria. You can also make a homemade cinnamon mouthwash to fight the bad breath. Cinnamon is antimicrobial.
Celery and Carrots: They are firm and crispy; these veggies also have a high moisture content to help keep your mouth wet.
Berries – are high in antioxidants that can help get rid of the bacteria that cause your mouth to have a bad smell.
It is an amazing mouth freshener that helps in managing bad breath. Fennel also has some antimicrobial properties, which helps in fighting the bacteria in the mouth.
Chew a tablespoon of fennel slowly to fresh your breath and at the same time fuel the production of saliva in the mouth.
You can also drink fennel tea, steep 1-2 two teaspoons of fennel seeds in a cup of hot water for 5 to 10 minutes. Drink the tea slowly.
11. Lemon Juice
Lemon juice can be used to cure bad breath. Rinsing your mouth with lemon juice has been used for many ages. Lemon contains acid which prevents the bacteria from growing within the mouth. The strong pleasant smell also is useful in masking the bad odor.
Take a cup of water, and add one tablespoon of lemon juice. Stir and rinse your mouth with it.
12. Apple Cider Vinegar
Apple Cider Vinegar is a nice remedy for bad breath. This is because of its pH balancing effects.
Take a cup of water, mix it with apple cider vinegar and then Gargle. Alternatively, Mix a glass of water with 1 tablespoon of raw and unfiltered apple cider vinegar and drink it before taking your meals.
13. Baking Soda
It helps in balancing the level of acid that contributes to bad breath and also fights oral bacteria that causes bad breath. To get rid of the bad breath in the mouth, Mix a half teaspoon of baking soda in a glass of warm water and rinse your mouth daily. You can also brush your teeth with baking soda to help reduce the acidity in your mouth and check bacteria from building up on the tongue.
14. Tea Tree Oil
It has some antiseptic properties which act like a great sterilizer for your mouth. Brush your teeth with toothpaste that contains tea tree oil to get its benefits or put a few drops of tea tree oil on your toothbrush along with your regular toothpaste and brush your teeth.
You can also, take a glass of water, mix it with a few drops of tea tree oil, lemon oil and peppermint oil.Use it as a mouthwash.
15. Green Tea or Herbal tea
Green tea is rich in polyphenol. The polyphenol is a great antioxidant that can prevent the growth of bacteria responsible for bad breath or prevent plaque from sticking to your teeth. Sipping of green tea may also help reduce the garlic unpleasant smell.
